Foster Parent Recruitment

Philly Family Pride has partnered with the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs, A Second Chance and DHS to recruit LGBTQ adults (single and partnered) in the Philadelphia area to become foster parents, specifically for LGBTQ youth in the system.

In the fall of 2017, we held three, well-attended information sessions that included basic foster parent requirements information as well as panels of LGBTQ foster parents and former foster youth (one panel pictured below).

Our first successful match came at the very first meeting. You can read more about their family here.

The spring of 2018 we held another three sessions (March 22, April 26 and May 24th) to recruit more foster parents to be affirming households.

Our final stand-alone recruitment event of 2018 was on August 16 at the Penn LGBT Center. Another workshop at our annual conference yielded a match between an LGBTQ youth and an LGBTQ household. (Pictured, Penn LGBT Center session.)

Sessions are starting back up the spring of 2019, with two events scheduled:

March 11, Lovett Library 6-8pm

April 18, William Way LGBT Center 6-8pm
